Get Extra Batteries For Your Camera….or else!!!

I’ll admit it.  I learned the hard way.

I had my camera all set-up on my tripod and was shooting some night shots with long Shutter Speeds and the worst case scenario happened… my camera shut off !!

My battery died right in the middle of a 30 second exposure.  Since I only had one battery my night of shooting was done.

I learned a valuable lesson that night.  Digital camera’s consume a lot of battery power…even more if you are using the Live View feature to see what your camera sees on the LCD screen.

The next day I did some research on Amazon to see if they had a spare battery for my Canon T2i.  I was overwhelmed by just how many batteries are available! I researched some of the battery options and read a bunch of reviews.  I can say that the batteries I bought have performed very well and do not drain quickly.

I found a grip that holds two batteries along with a shutter button and all of the focus buttons you use when shooting.  This is very helpful for when you are shooting vertical so you have quick access to these buttons and it makes it much easier to shoot as well.  I spent around $52.00 USD for the grip and a pack of 4 batteries with a charger.  Money well spent.

I bought the [easyazon_link identifier=”B00NLYAHA0″ locale=”US” nw=”y” tag=”healfiss-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”y” popups=”n”]Powerextra 4 pack Replacement Canon LP-E8 Battery For Canon Rebel T5i T4i T3i T2i DSLR Digital Camera With Charger for Canon LP-E8 Replacement of LC-E8E[/easyazon_link] (these are for Canon, but they are also available for Nikon):

I also bought the [easyazon_link identifier=”B004UTQRHW” locale=”US” nw=”y” tag=”healfiss-20″ cart=”n” cloak=”y” popups=”n”]Neewer BG-E8 Replacement Battery Grip for Canon EOS 550D 600D 650D 700D/ Rebel T2i T3i T4i T5i SLR Cameras[/easyazon_link].  This is probably the best accessory I have ever bought.  The grip holds two batteries and makes the camera so much easier to hold.  It also makes my entry level Canon T2i look like a higher end model with the grip attached.  🙂

One of the things you will learn about me (if you don’t already know) is that I am a “Budget” photographer.  I do not own the best gear.  I shoot all used camera bodies and used lenses.

I have always believed that good photographs are created by good photographers, not good cameras.  Don’t get me wrong, I would love to own a Pro-Level DSLR some day, but for now I make due with what I can afford.

For now I am happy with my Canon T2i and Battery Grip.

Happy Shooting,

Dave
